Now the MetService long range forecast for all New Zealand to midnight Sunday

The Situation

A ridge of high pressure persists over most of New Zealand today, while a front moves onto the far south in the evening. The front weakens over the central South Island tomorrow, while high pressure remains over the North Island.

Looking at the weather to midnight tomorrow

Coromandel Peninsula, Bay of Plenty and Taupo

Cloudy periods. Isolated showers during the afternoons and evenings.

Remaining North Island areas

Mainly fine. Areas of cloud or fog tomorrow morning.

Marlborough, Nelson, Buller, and Grey

Often cloudy, with isolated showers about the ranges during the afternoons and evenings.

Westland

Mostly cloudy, but fine spells this afternoon. Scattered rain developing tomorrow afternoon, with heavy falls about the ranges.

Canterbury, and Otago apart from Clutha

Mainly fine today. Scattered rain developing tomorrow morning, clearing Otago in the afternoon.

Clutha, Fiordland and Southland

Rain developing this evening, clearing to fine spells tomorrow morning.

Chatham Islands

Cloudy periods and a few showers.

And the outlook for the following three days...

Friday

North Island: Partly cloudy. Scattered showers and possible thunderstorms from afternoon over the central high country. South Island: Periods of rain in the northwest. Partly cloudy elsewhere, with isolated showers.

Saturday

North Island: Partly cloudy with isolated showers, mainly from afternoon. South Island: Isolated showers, especially about Westland. Rain from evening in Fiordland.

Sunday

North Island: A few showers in the north. Fine elsewhere. South Island: Occasional rain in the south and east. Partly cloudy elsewhere.

And at the Chathams

Cloudy periods, with a few showers on Friday and Saturday. Southerlies, dying out on Saturday. Northerlies developing Sunday.
