The final Harry Potter film has passed $US1 billion in box office takings around the world.
Warner Bros said Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 is the first in the eight-part series to reach this milestone.
The BBC reports the film has made $US318.5 million at the North American box office to date.
Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone had the previous best global takings with $US974.8 million in 2001.
Avatar holds the current record for the biggest worldwide box office haul with $US2.8 billion.
