    Mozart's closest friends and acquaintances in Vienna were members of the European intelligentsia who advocated the principles of Enlightenment. It was in the Masonic lodges of Vienna that discussions on political, philosophical and social matters took place, and Mozart joined the Zur Wohltätigkeit Lodge in December 1784. This became his spiritual home, and the beliefs and ideas shared here lay at the foundation of everything he composed thereafter (RNZ)
