    (7) Mozart finds a peer (February 1785)

    Despite their age difference, the only other living composer Mozart really respected was Joseph Haydn. The admiration was mutual, and each recognized in his music the influence of the other. Details of their meetings are sketchy, but we do know they spent time together in February 1785, when Haydn listened to the quartets Mozart had composed in his honour. There were certainly meetings thereafter until 1790, and Haydn was devastated to hear of Mozart's early death (RNZ)
