    Taarab music from Zanzibar - Culture Musical Club

    A popular music genre imported from the Middle East to the East African coast in the early years of the 1900s, taarab's a unique blend of Arabian, Indian and African styles. Over the years its appeal has spread beyond local communities to become one of Africa's most popular forms of music, and one which is heard at world music festivals all around the world.

    Today's performers are the Culture Musical Club, the largest taarab orchestra on the island of Zanzibar (World Village 468080)
