The blossoming of interest in baroque music has resulted in a slew of new Australasian instruments. In Auckland, Paul Downie builds keyboard instruments ranging from tiny clavichords to grand fortepianos. And, in Castlemaine, Victoria, Michael Grinter has branched out from baroque and renaissance recorders to gain international attention for his wooden flutes and Irish whistles.
