The UN body responsible for forming mining rules in the High Seas finished meeting on Friday local time in Kingston, Jamaica.

Brazilian oceanographer, Leticia Carvalho was voted in as the new secretary general at the International Seabed Authority meeting, replacing two-term head Michael Lodge, who has been criticized for aligning with seabed mining companies.

RNZ Pacific's Caleb Fotheringham spoke with Greenpeace Aotearoa deep sea mining campaigner Juressa Lee about the meeting.
