Andrew McKinstry Lloyd was a 16-year-old cadet on the steamship Turakina when German guns sank her off the Taranaki coast On 20 August 1940. The Turakina came across the German raider, the Orion in the Tasman, and with just one single 4.7-inch gun, instead of running, she turned to fight. 35 men lost their lives. Jeremy LLoyd has never forgotten. His older brother Andy lost his life that day
