Acclaimed singer/songwriter  Nadia Reid is currently on a 13 date tour of the country before she heads to the US to record her third album, the High and Lonely.

She joins in studio to perform one of her new songs.

1:15 Finding solutions to the world's waste problem 

New solar-powered bins have installed in South Auckland today which can hold up to 600 litres of waste - six times that of regular sized rubbish bins. 

The Big Belly Bins were provided by maintenance company Civic Contractors and comes as the firm's managing director Bjorn Revfiem returns from a forum in Munich, which focused on the global issue of waste management

Bjorn joins us now to tell us more about the smart bins and more importantly, what he learned about trying to cope with the world's waste problem.

The creators of gay-themed children's book are back with a new book called Maiden Voyage.

The fairy tale is a high seas adventure that follows two young women as they fall in love. 

The aim, aside from an exciting read, is to have more LGBTQ representation in children's media. 

To give us an idea of what the new story is about we talk to co-author Jaimee Poipoi.

With newspapers folding left and right - earlier this year Stuff announced 28 rural paper would be sold or closed - you'd be forgiven for thinking community journalism is dead. 

But on Waiheke Island, the locally-owned community paper Gulf News is this month celebrating 45 years. 

To tell us how they keep the going in the new media landscape, as well as the industrious history of the paper, is owner and editor Liz Waters.

Mary discusses suggestions made by a panel of experts at a recent conference on how to improve KiwiSaver.

She's not keen on making the scheme compulsory, and wants to see an end to "total remuneration", which is when employers take their contributions out of employees' pay. 

Some aspects of contributions holidays don't work, including its name. And providers could do more to help KiwiSaver members transition into retirement.
