1:17 Next steps for Aotearoa in a Covid-19 world

New Zealand is currently enjoying a period of being one of the very few countries in the world that can have mass events. But how long does that last in a bubble world. Economists and theorists are starting to think quite hard about how New Zealand and Australia can go about opening up to the world.

But it's all happening with the Melbourne outbreak casting a real shadow over optimistic thinking. Eric Crampton from the New Zealand Initiative has been wrestling with the data and views on this one and joins Jesse to examine the Gordian knot.

3:10 Figuring out fatherhood with the help of a feathered friend

Charlie Gilmour spent his childhood trying to understand how his biological father could abandon the family when he was just a baby.  His mother remarried Pink Floyd  singer and guitarist  David Gilmour, who adopted her young son,   but the absent father loomed large.  Charlie found   wisdom and a deeper understanding of family bonds in an unlikely relationship,  caring for an orphaned magpie.  He writes about childhood and parenthood and the redemptive power of love  in his memoir, Featherhood: A Memoir of Two Fathers and a Magpie.
