1:15 Uni students build land speed EV and chase record

A group of Canterbury University Engineering students has been working on a unique project which they hope will bring them a world record.

Inspired by the legendary kiwi racer Burt Munro, they've spent a year designing and building an electric land speed car and will be taking it to the salt flats of Lake Gairdner in South Australia next March to race.

It's the first electric land speed car made by an undergrad university team anywhere in the world.

The University's Motorsport Team prinicipal Kaenan Ferguson talks to Jesse.

Those taking an evening stroll around Tasmania's northern midlands may hear the dulcet tones of ABC's veteran broadcaster Richard Fidler.

No it's not their imagination but rather a study that has been investigating human voices as a deer deterrent.

University of Tasmania honours student Lucy Turnbull has been the one trialing this at a sheep farm, she talks to Jesse.

Renewed interest in home-knitting and spinning has pushed up demand for coloured wool - along with prices.

And the Black and Coloured Sheep Breeders Association says the industry needs more people to get involved.

The Association's mid-Canterbury secretary is Georgie Fairless. She talks to Jesse from her home in Little River on Banks Peninsula.
