Christchurch Call 'day one' of change - Ardern

From Morning Report, 6:38 am on 16 May 2019

Jacinda Ardern has described the Christchurch Call summit as "Day One" in the change the world needs. At the meeting in Paris overnight, all of the major technology companies, 17 countries and the European Commission signed up to the call to action. A short time ago, the Prime Minister spoke at a press conference. Microsoft, Twitter, Facebook, Google and Amazon have committed to taking steps to addressing the abuse of technology to spread terrorist content. But it's not just tech companies and world leaders stepping up. New Zealand and global investors worth more than $5 trillion are uniting to put pressure on companies who have signed up to the Christchurch Call. Ms Ardern was asked if she thought it was disappointing that the US did not attend, and that Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg was in Paris last week, yet also chose not to attend summit.
