Contracting out Crown prosecutions to private law firms leads to a lack of accountability and transparency and the system needs to change, according to key players in the justice system.

Private law firms get about $40 million of public money each year to prosecute serious crimes for the Crown - and the Crown Warrant gives the firm a regional monopoly for the area it covers.

In our largest cities the Crown warrant has been with the same firm for 100 years or even more. Guyon Espiner reports.
