RNZ Music is proud to be the first to share the new single and video form Wellington’s Timothy Blackman.
‘By The River’ is from Blackman’s forthcoming album Brightest Days, which is his first in eight years. The album is due out on September 16.
Blackman wrote Brightest Days during a period of time spent hiding out on the East Cape and on his return to Wellington.
It was made in Blackman’s typical raw DIY style by first-time recording and mixing engineer, musician Brooke Singer of French for Rabbits.
The LP includes additional instrumentation and vocals from Singer, as well as Lucy Botting of Wellington’s Girl Boss.
It’s an emotionally direct record, on which Blackman shares heartfelt reflections on past relationships. Reminiscent of Mt Eerie, Sun Kill Moon and Chris Knox.
The video for ‘By The River’ was directed by Hamish Waterhouse with cinematography by Bill Bycroft. It was shot in South Wairarapa.
