The Environment Court has given the green light to Canterbury Cricket's plans to develop Hagley Oval as an international cricket stadium.
In July this year, Christchurch was awarded hosting rights for the opening match of the 2015 World Cup at the oval.
The ruling by Judge Jane Borthwick released on Wednesday afternoon comes with a long list of conditions which Canterbury Cricket said it needs time to consider.
Chief executive Lee Germon said it's very pleased with the decision, but the Christchurch City Council now has to consider whether to grant a lease for the proposed pavilion and light towers and he hoped it would appove this.
