Lorde debuts her new song ‘What Was That’ in a New York park
The Kiwi artist has not released an original solo track since 2021.
The moment has come... Lorde has released her first new solo track since the 2021 album Solar Power.
The 28-year-old star had teased 'What Was That' in a series of cryptic posts on social platforms, including TikTok and Instagram.
On Tuesday night, New York time, she debuted 'What Was That’ at an impromptu live performance in Washington Square Park.

With this new three-minute single - co-produced with Jim-E Stack and Daniel Nigro - the Auckland-born artist initiates her long-awaited return.
'What Was That’ signalled the “dawn of a striking new era for Lorde", Universal Music New Zealand said in a statement.
The record company confirmed the music video for 'What Was That' was shot on location in New York, including Washington Square Park.
'What Was That' is now available on Spotify, YouTube and Apple Music.
