Serious crash near Ashburton leaves several injured, road closed

Emergency services are responding to a serious crash near the mid-Canterbury town Ashburton that has left several people injured.

Police were called to the two-vehicle crash on Ashburton Staveley Road near the Symes Road turnoff shortly after 3pm on Sunday.

The road has been closed.

St John confirmed four people had been seriously injured with two others in a moderate condition.

Three helicopters along with three ambulances, a rapid response unit and an operations manager attended.
