Police are seeking information from witnesses to a head-on fatal crash in Ōpōtiki.
In a statement, police said the three-vehicle crash occurred on State Highway Two, near Baird Road, about 2pm on Saturday.
A person driving a Holden "collided head on" with a Toyota Hilux, carrying three people.
The crash caused the Toyota to cross the road and slide down a bank, coming to a stop on its side.
A Mazda CX5 which was travelling behind the Toyota was also involved in the crash, police said.
One person died at the scene while five others required hospitalisation for injuries.
One person remains in hospital needing surgery, while all others have been discharged.
