A fire at a private property on Wellington hillside has been extinguished.
The blaze's huge plumes of black smoke caught the attention of people on social media when the fire started shortly before 1.30 on Saturday afternoon on a Stokes Valley hill in Lower Hutt.
Fire and Emergency shift manager Murray Dunbar said a standard double garage, measuring five by six metres, was put out about an hour after FENZ was called.
He said no request for a fire investigator has been made yet.
