Another final for Carrington

Dame Lisa Carrington has cruised into the final of the K1 200 at the World Canoe Sprint Championships in Canada.
She recorded the fastest time of the day and grabbed the one automatic spot for the final from her heat.
Carrington and Alicia Hoskin then finished second in their heat of the K2 too to qualify for the semi-finals.
Carrington is competing in four events this week.
Ashton Reiser fifth in men's K1 200 heat and will go to semi-final and Max Brown and Kurtis Imrie were fifth in their K2 500 heat and will now go to a semi-final.
Solid start for Ko

Lydia Ko is tied for 28th after the first round of the British Open in Scotland.
Ko fired an even par 71 which included three bogeys and three birdies.
She is six shots behind the leader Hinako Shibuno of Japan.
The Open is the last major of the year.
Meanwhile on the men's World Tour Josh Geary and Daniel Hillier are both tied for 61st, five shots from the leader at the Cazoo Open in Wales.
Roosters too good for Broncos
The race for the top eight in the NRL is getting tight after the Roiosters beat the Broncos 34-16 at the SCG.
The Roosters scored six tries to three and led 18-4 at half time.
The Roosters improve to seventh, while the Broncos stay fifth.
The Broncos failed to bounce back from last week's shock loss to the Wests Tigers and could slump as low as seventh by the end of the weekend.
Last night's victory means Manly (10th) and St. George Illawarra (11th) will both trail the Roosters by a game and points differential even if they win their own round 21 matches, which are against sides higher than them on the ladder.
American basketballer gets 9 years
A Russian court has sentenced US basketball star Brittney Griner to nine years in prison on drug charges.

She was also ordered to pay a fine of $25,000.
Griner pleaded guilty to drug charges but has denied deliberately breaking the law.
The 31-year-old Olympic gold medallist was detained in February at an airport near Moscow when vape cartridges containing cannabis oil were found in her luggage.
Cannabis is illegal in Russia.
Griner's defence team said they would appeal against the verdict by the court in Khimki, near Moscow.
US President Joe Biden said in a statement that Russia was wrongfully detaining Griner and called for her to be released immediately.
It is unclear how long she will actually spend behind bars, as the US and Russia have been discussing a potential prisoner swap that could involve the basketball player, the BBC's Russia editor Steve Rosenberg says.

Dovizioso to retire early
Italian rider Andrea Dovizioso will retire from MotoGP after his home race at Misano next month with Britain's Cal Crutchlow standing in for him at Yamaha for the rest of the season.

The 36-year-old had announced last month he would quit at the end of the year but decided over the summer break to go earlier.
Dovizioso was a three-times MotoGP championship runner-up with Ducati but has scored only 10 points this season and has not finished in the top 10 at any race so far. He is 22nd in the standings.
Crutchlow retired at the end of the 2020 season but remains Yamaha's official test rider and raced last year as a stand-in for injured non-works rider Franco Morbidelli and Maverick Vinales, who left the factory team.
The British Grand Prix is at Silverstone this weekend, with Austria following before the San Marino and Rimini Riviera Grand Prix in Misano on Sept. 4.

ICC to ask about Olympic inclusion
The International Cricket Council will make a presentation to the Los Angeles Olympics organisers later this month in its bid for the sport to return to the Games after a gap of 128 years.

Cricket has been shortlisted for potential inclusion at the 2028 Los Angeles Games along with baseball-softball, flag football, lacrosse, breakdancing, karate, kickboxing, squash and motorsport.
Teams would play Twenty20 cricket -- the sport's shortest international format which has inspired the lucrative Indian Premier League and similar franchise-based competitions in other countries.
The host city can include any sport but needs approval of the International Olympic Committee.
The governing body is likely to take a final decision at the IOC session in Mumbai next year, said one of the sources which had direct knowledge of the matter.
Twenty eight sports feature in the initial programme announced by the 2028 Games organiser in December.
Cricket has not been played at the Olympics since its maiden appearance in the 1900 Games at Paris, where Britain beat a team of mostly English expatriates representing France by 158 runs to win gold.
Women's Twenty20 is being played at the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Birmingham and cricket will also part of the delayed Asian Games in Hangzhou next year.
