Upon landing on a new planet, the Star Trek crew has been known to whip out their tricorders to find out the history of their latest discovery.

And then on return to the ship, the tricorder can scan their bodies to ensure they have not picked up any alien viruses.
While we have devices that can manage incredible things, is there any chance we could develop one to do all that.
