Tinfoil hats first appeared in science fiction back in the 1920s and they've since featured in films such as Signs and Noroi: The Curse and also in the Artemis Fowl and Mistborn book series.
Professor Justin Hodgkiss, MacDiarmid Institute Co-Director and Professor of Chemistry at Victoria University of Wellington discusses the real life usefulness of the tinfoil hat.
