GIUSEPPE TARTINI (1692-1770)
According to the French astronomer, Jérôme Lalande, Tartini related a dream to Lalande in which the devil appeared to the composer and played a violin sonata "so wonderful and so beautiful … as I had never even conceived in my boldest flights of fantasy". And so the Devil's Trill Sonata was allegedly conceived in 1713. Three hundred years later, we take a look at the life and works of Tartini in a programme presented by Peter Hoar (R Mon 7.00pm) (RNZ)
