RNZ Chief Executive and Editor-in-Chief Paul Thompson has welcomed the budget investment in RNZ Pacific shortwave transmitters.
In Budget 2022 the Government announced $4.4 million dollars capital funding for a new transmitter for RNZ Pacific.

The Government announced today $327 million dollars over three years in baseline funding for the new media entity.

RNZ wraps up 2021 with an audience high
RNZ is ending the year on a high, with the strongest audience levels of 2021 across radio and digital channels. RNZ has continued to have an outstanding showing at local and international awards on all platforms, and RNZ’s radical sharing strategy continues to break new ground with Proof, a documentary produced in-house at RNZ by Guyon Espiner and Claire Eastham-Farrelly, screening on both RNZ.co.nz and TVNZ last month and a new content-sharing partnership with Mediaworks that has just been signed. From later this month, RNZ-credited stories will be included in news bulletins across Mediaworks stations.

RNZ wins major international and local awards
RNZ has had a strong showing at multiple media award presentations in the past week, including three wins and a highly commended at the pre-eminent international broadcasting awards the AIBs. The Association of International Broadcasters (AIB) awards are judged by an international panel of experts nominated by broadcasters from round the world. They cover factual television, radio, audio and online productions in any language.
