1.40 Greenpeace launches new drinking water test

A new mail-in service to test drinking water for nitrate contamination has been launched today.

During winter 2021, Greenpeace ran several testing days in communities across Canterbury and Southland, testing over 400 bore-sourced drinking water samples for nitrate contamination.  Testing found high levels of nitrate in peoples drinking water in areas affected by intensive dairying.

With Covid restrictions making in-person testing difficult, Greenpeace is now offering to test water samples via a mail-in service.

Greenpeace Aotearoa senior campaigner talks to Jesse about how the service will operate.

3:10 Steven Van Zandt, number one at being the number two guy

Steven Van Zandt  is number one at being the number two guy.  A guitarist for the E Street Band with Bruce Springsteen and the underboss Salvio Dante to crime boss, Tony Soprano, his role adjacent to center stage has allowed him to pursue other passions. He walked away from  Springsteen just as the band was filling stadiums, but he found his calling as an activist, boycotting Sun City in South Africa and campaigning to free Nelson Mandela. His memoir is Unrequited Infatuations: Odyssey of a Rock and Roll Consigliere (A Cautionary Tale).
