1:20 New record for Foveaux Strait swimmer
Monumental hardwork paid off for Arrowtown swimmer, Liana Smith yesterday, when she completed a record breaking Foveaux Strait swim.
Liana Smith set a record for the swim from the northern tip of Stewart Island to the bottom of the South Island - a distance of 29.6 kilometres.
It was the third leg of the big swim treble for Liana - completing the New Zealand Triple Crown swimming challenge - that's Cook Strait, Lake Taupo and now Foveaux Strait.
She's now the fastest woman in combined time for the 3 swims. She talks to Jesse about her feat.

In a very RNZ relatable story today, Jesse speaks to the man behind an album featuring endangered bird songs which has flown up the Australian charts, debuting ahead of Taylor Swift and Adele!
Anthony Albrecht is a musician and PhD candidate who hatched the idea of the Songs of Disappearance album to draw attention to the fact that one in 6 Australian bird species are under threat. You can find the album here.

In the US the Superbowl kicks off on Sunday night (Monday in NZ) and New Zealander Rikki Ellison will know exactly how the players are feeling ahead of the massive event.
Rikki was the first New Zealander to ever play in the NFL and went on to win three Superbowls. He's also part of the well known sporting whānau which also produced star rugby players Tamati Ellison and Jacob Ellison.
Rikki talks to Jesse about his sporting career and life outside of NFL which has led him to work in missile defence advocacy.

2:20 Rockquest style competition for upcoming Jazz musicians
Jazz musician and senior lecturer at the New Zealand School of Music in Wellington Rodger Fox is part of a new competition launched this week to encourage younger people to engage with jazz.
Launched on Wednesday night the Young Jazz Band-it competition has 18 thousand dollars worth of prizes for the winning Intermediate and secondary school hopefuls. Rodger talks to Jesse about the competition and his hopes of inspiring a new generation of jazz enthusiasts.

If you got a painful mozzie bite while relaxing at the beach this summer, it might have been a female naeroa or saltwater mosquito (Opifex fuscus) looking for a tasty blood meal.
Naeroa are unique to Aotearoa and the only mosquitoes that live and breed in our salty rock pools.
