An American Samoa based longline fishing vessel, whose fishing voyage was terminated by the U.S. Coast Guard due to federal violations, faces penalties of more than $US 6,000.
A Coast Guard spokesman, Lieutenant Scott Carr, says the Princess Karlinna II's voyage was terminated due to flooding in the engine room, and also an insufficient number of personal floatation devices on board.
There is no civil penalty for having a voyage terminated.
But Lieutenant Carr said the Princess Karlinna II had a total of ten safety violations each with a maximum civil penalty of $US 6,500.
He says the vessel owner/operator is required to address violations cited by the Coast Guard.
