Corey Fuimaono was born and raised in Cannons Creek, Porirua City and his heritage is Māori (Ngāpuhi), Samoan and Pakeha (Scottish ancestry).

A former Youth MP and Media Studies teacher’s pet, Corey decided their future lay in media, not politics and went on to study filmmaking at the Southern Institute of Technology in Invercargill. They started their broadcasting career putting together local current affairs programme The Agenda for Radio Southland in 2017.

Corey then moved to Tāmaki Makaurau began volunteering at 95bFM in 2019, first writing and then reading the news bulletins, and also using his film skills to do live music videography. Corey went on to host Fukumodo's Crate in 2022 and was awarded Te Tohu Kairangi ki a 95bFM (Outstanding Contribution to 95bFM) at the Student Radio Network Awards that year. Corey says one of the things they most enjoy about their work at RNZ is that each day isn’t like the last. “As an A/V nerd, Public Service Broadcasting is vital and is a kaupapa that I support wholeheartedly: I'm just happy to do my part, while also being a little silly.”

Corey makes their RNZ National on-air debut this summer, hosting Eight ‘til Late alongside Ellie Marsden on Friday 10, 17 & 24 January.
