1:15 Live stock thefts cost farmers millions every year
Last Friday a North Canterbury farmer woke up to find that 500 of her precious lambs had been stolen.
An investigation is still ongoing to try and discover what happened.
While this seems to be a particularly extreme case, Federated Farmers estimates that around $120 million worth of livestock is stolen from rural properties each year.
Federated Farmers board member and rural policing spokesperson Richard MacIntyre talks to Jesse about the ongoing issue of stock being stolen on large scale.
1.25 National fasting day introduced to celebrate the benefits of fasting
Today is National Fasting Day.
Launched by a group called WELOVEFASTING, it's aimed at people who want to give fasting a go with the support of other health-conscious Kiwis.
Otago University Professor of Psychiatry & Addiction Medicine Doug Sellman believes there are misconceptions out there about what fasting is and the effects it can have,
He says, when done properly, it is a great way to lose weight and protect against things like diabetes, heart disease, and even cancers and Alzheimer's.
1.35 Recognition for fund raising for police dogs
Taranaki resident Natalya Manton has been recognised for her generous work raising funds and awareness for the Police Dog Trust.
Since 2021, Natalya, her mum, and carer have been working together to make and sell dog treats, ultimately raising $3,000 to date.
In turn, she was recently invited to a Dog Team Graduation held at the Dog Training Centre in Trentham, where she was surprised with a Certificate of Appreciation from the Central District Commander Superintendent.
Natalya talks to Jesse about her passion for Police dogs and her incredible fundraising efforts.
