Wine Dark Sea is the title of the sixth album Texas-born singer Jolie Holland has made since she quit the Vancouver-based Be Good Tanyas and struck out on her own a little over a decade ago. And in that time she’s covered a lot of ground with her highly personalised music.
A melody, for Holland, isn’t just there to be sung; it is something to be chewed and gargled, stretched and popped like bubblegum.
