Prince of Wales has added a personal touch to a special hand-crafted rug being made for him to mark his visit to New Zealand.
The six square metre rug, bearing his coat of arms, was one of about 50 exhibits and displays at the Shear Brilliance wool showcase that the Prince visited in Auckland on Monday.
It was been commissioned by New Zealand Wool Services International in appreciation of Prince Charles' work as patron of the international Campaign for Wool.
WSI marketing manager Malcolm Ching said it's being crafted out of Glacial wool which the company is promoting as the brightest, whitest wool in the world and unique in its ability to take dyes.
The rugs is being made publicly during the showcase and Mr Ching says Prince Charles even tried out the tufting gun which is being used in its creation.
He also took the time to meet all the exhibitors at the wool promotion event.
Federated Farmers meat and fibre chair Jeanette Maxwell said that as a sheep farmer she found the wool showcase uplifting.
The industry was able to show off the versatility of wool, including spectacular rugs, beautiful lampshades, and even a wool base for an instant lawn.
The vibrant colours and innovative designs were complemented by displays such as one which showed the flame resistance of wool compared with cotton and synthetics.
