A multi-year workforce plan is urgently needed to ensure all patients get the care they need, says the Cancer Society.
Dunedin Hospital has fewer than half the number of Radiation Oncologists it needs to serve the 300,000 people in the Southern part of the country.
As a result, patients are spending several weeks at a time being treated in Christchurch and elsewhere.
