Smashproof
South Auckland hip hop trio Smashproof - Tyree, Deach and Sid Diamond - had their work cut out for them when it came to following up their 2009 LP The Weekend, a concept album led by the song 'Brother', which topped the New Zealand singles chart for 11 weeks. Rather than shoot for a Brother-sized single or another concept album on their sophomore, Smashproof chose to whittle down a collection of 20 unrelated songs to seven, running the gamut from socially-conscious material to club tracks. Sam Wicks talks to Deach and Sid Diamond about the rules that govern their three-way songwriting partnership.
