The origins of hierarchal society in Samoa and wider Polynesia have been uncovered in a new study.

Ancient rock walls and high mounds and ditches in Falefa on Upolu island in Samoa offers valuable clues about how the chiefly systems may have been introduced.

The study was done in partnership between the University of Auckland and the National University of Samoa.

Professor Ethan Cochrane who led the study, spoke with Pacific Waves host Susana Suisuiki.
