Ever heard of the ghost shark?
No, neither had we, but even scientists who study this obscure creature have seen precious few of them.
These are dead-eyed, wing-finned fish who float like butterflies in the murky depths are rarely seen by people of any kind.
Now scientists from NIWA have discovered one - a hatchling ghost shark - off the east coast of the South Island.
