SH1 Brenderwyns opens ahead of long weekend

State Highway One at the Brenderwyns has opened to traffic ahead of the holiday weekend. For four months Northland's main connection to the rest of New Zealand has been severed. Since then anyone needing to travel to or from Auckland has had to take a roundabout route on narrow, winding roads - or an hours-long detour via the west coast. That all ended, however, at one minute to midnight last night. Northland reporter Peter de Graaf spoke to Corin Dann.
